This policy sets out how Harle Tech complies with the UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking requirements for relevant 3D printed models supplied within Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales).
1. Scope & Application
The UKCA mark applies to specific categories of products placed on the market in Great Britain to demonstrate compliance with relevant UK legislation.
- Applicable Models: This policy applies strictly to 3D printed models designed, manufactured, or sold by Harle Tech that fall under regulated product categories (such as toys, protective equipment, or specific technical equipment).
- Exclusions: Decorative items, non-functional prototypes, and custom items manufactured for personal or non-regulated commercial use are generally exempt from UKCA marking unless covered by specific product safety regulations.
2. Applicable UK Legislation
Where required by law, our 3D printed models are assessed against the relevant statutory instruments, including but not limited to:
- Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011 (where models are intended or designed for play by children under 14 years of age)
- General Product Safety Regulations 2005 (GPSR)
- The Electromagnetic Compatibility Regulations 2016 (for models incorporating electronic components)
3. Our Compliance Process
To ensure full compliance before placing a UKCA-marked 3D printed model on the market, we follow a rigorous assessment procedure:
Technical Documentation & Design Safety
We maintain technical files for all compliant products. These include design specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for polymers/resins, structural integrity assessments, and manufacturing parameters (e.g., layer height, infill density, and post-processing steps).
Essential Health & Safety Requirements
Models are evaluated for potential hazards, including:
- Mechanical & Physical Properties: Sharp edges, small parts (choking hazards), and structural durability.
- Chemical Safety: Verifying that filament/resin materials are non-toxic and compliant with UK REACH regulations.
- Flammability: Ensuring materials meet required burn-rate standards where applicable.
Conformity Assessment & Testing
Where applicable, models undergo self-assessment or independent laboratory testing against designated UK standards (e.g., BS EN 71 for toy safety).
4. UKCA Marking & Documentation
For products requiring compliance:
- Marking: The UKCA mark is visibly, legibly, and indelibly affixed to the product, its packaging, or accompanying documentation in accordance with UK guidelines.
- Declaration of Conformity (DoC): We issue a formal UK Declaration of Conformity for each relevant product line. This document includes:
- Product identification and serial/batch details.
- Name and address of [Company Name].
- Statement of responsibility.
- List of applicable UK legislation and designated standards applied.
5. Traceability & Quality Control
To maintain consistent quality across 3D printed batches:
- Every batch is inspected post-print for print fidelity, layer adhesion, and surface finish.
- Batch records are kept to trace raw material lots (filaments/resins) back to the supplier.
- Technical documentation and Declarations of Conformity are retained for a minimum of 10 years from the date the product is placed on the market.
